Emulsifier Emulsan
Description
Emulsan Emulsifier – Versatile, High Performance
Emulsan Emulsifier is a PEG-free, Oil-in-Water (O/W) emulsifier obtained from renewable plant raw materials, appreciated for its ability to form thermally and physico-chemically stable emulsions. Emulsan is versatile, capable of emulsifying a wide range of fatty phases (plant oils, esters, waxes) without strictly requiring co-emulsifiers. It allows for stable formulas across broad pH ranges. It imparts a fine texture to creams, excellent spreadability on the skin, and a pleasant sensory profile, leaving the epidermis moisturized and velvety.
Ingredients (INCI): Methyl Glucose Sesquistearate.
Technical Characteristics
- Emulsifier Type: Non-ionic, Oil-in-Water (O/W).
- Appearance: Off-white to yellowish pellets or granules.
- General Dosage: 2% - 6%
Main Properties
- Stability: Forms a solid interfacial barrier around oil droplets, preventing coalescence and separation even under temperature fluctuations.
- Tolerant Non-Ionic Nature: Does not react negatively with salts, electrolytes, or complex preservatives, offering good formulation flexibility.
- Emollient, Moisturizing: Reduces transepidermal water loss (TEWL) by forming a fine film that enhances hydration.
- Sensory Profile: Creams made with Emulsan feature a rich texture in the jar, but feel light on the skin, absorbing easily without leaving a heavy layer.
Applications
- Day and night facial creams intended for all skin types, especially dry, sensitive, or mature skin.
- Fluid body lotions and moisturizing body milks.
- Repairing creams for hands and feet.
- Sun care formulations and after-sun lotions.
Formulation Guide
- Procedure: Follow the classic hot-process method for creams; Emulsan is incorporated into the oil phase, which is heated to approximately 70°C - 75°C.
- Oil Phase: Can form emulsions with an oil phase ranging between 15% - 40%, performing well with both polar plant oils and esters. For stabilization, adding an extra 2% - 7% consistency factors is recommended in creams with a high oil phase.
- Optimal pH Range: pH 3.5 - 8.5 in dense creams, 5.5 - 8.5 in fluid creams.
- Recommended Usage Dosage: 2% - 6%
- Compatibility: Excellent with an extensive range of ingredients, complex actives, including electrolytes.
Safety in Use and Storage
Safety Profile: Safe ingredient with good skin tolerance.
Precautions: For external cosmetic use only.
Storage: Keep in a closed container, in a dry and cool place, protected from light.
