2. Add phase B and homogenise.

3. Add the contents of phase C to phase A+B, a little at a time, with mixing, continue mixing until smooth.

4. Place the beaker in a bowl of cold water and blend until a smooth, glossy, even emulsion forms.

5. When the mixture has cooled to below 40°C, or hand temperature, add the Phase D ingredients and mix thoroughly until smooth.

6. Transfer the mixture to the dedicated container. The consistency will be final the next day.

The result is a sun cream with medium to high sun protection. It can be applied to the skin and body alike and is suitable for adults and children over 3 years old. Apply a generous layer to the skin, spread it very well and repeat every 2 hours during sun exposure, after getting out of the water or in case of excessive perspiration

The active ingredients are zinc oxide and titanium dioxide - as mineral filters (non-nano) that reflect the sun's rays, karanja oil, known for its ability to absorb some UV radiation, sea buckthorn oil, marigold and rosemary extract - strong, anti-free radical antioxidants.

Hello Gabriella, Due to ingredients like zinc oxide and titanium paste, this Karanja oil sunscreen is a very complex and demanding recipe. It is important that you follow the instructions exactly, the pH value of the water, i.e. use distilled water, and the temperatures so that the cream remains stable, does not cut and a bluish oil settles on top. If this happens, the quality of the cream is not affected and can still be used.

Good evening! I'm back here with a remark that I've seen twice among the comments: the blue color. After making the cream, I divided it into two containers: one that I keep under observation without touching the cream, and one from which I use the cream. The one kept under observation didn't change color, but the one I used started to have a blue oil on the surface. I mention the only 2 changes I made to the formula: 1. instead of the marigold extract, I added carrots (same percentage) 2. I also added a little brown pigment because I thought it left the skin too white. So.. is it ok that it changes color to blue after a few days?

Hi Gabriella, The marigold extract can be replaced with carrot or schisandra extract, keeping the original percentage, or you can remove it from the recipe. Have a sunny day!

Hello! If I don't have marigold extract, does it help to increase the percentage of rosemary extract? If yes, by how much should I increase the amount?

Hello Diana, According to our calculations and the sunscreen manufacturer's data, the cream has a protection factor of at least 30, which is medium-high.

Hi Mihaela, It is somewhat normal for a water-in-oil emulsion to show a small amount of oil on the surface over time. Given that you made the cream exactly as the recipe calls for and made no substitutions to the ingredients, the fact that it changes color to blue leaves us wondering too. In the case of the large amount separated, we have reservations about microbiological stability. Have a sunny day!

Hello. I made this cream according to the instructions. After 4 days of making it half of it turned blue. What could it be from?

Hi Cornelia, In principle you can also work with Fragard, but we haven't tested the formula with any other preservative than those suggested.

I don't have this one either, but I wonder if I could use fragard or softdermo complex?

Hello! Karanja oil and Cosgard preservative are contraindicated for young children. Substitutes to these ingredients we unfortunately cannot recommend for this recipe.

Hello, what should be modified in this cream to be used for children under 3 years old? Or what other recipe could I use for children as young as 1 year old? Thank you very much!

Hello! In theory, candelilla wax could form, like beeswax, a composition known as cold-cream which contains relatively little water and requires no preservative. It is somewhat more difficult to prepare, we have no practical experience with any other wax than beeswax for such preparations. The ingredients in the above recipe include natural flavoring, which may actually be the preservative (see our Fragard for example).

Hello! Although I'm off topic somewhat, my question is related to candelilla wax that I found in the composition of the following commercial cream: rice oil, watermelon oil, evening primrose oil*, camellia oil*, witch hazel water*, hemp oil*, candelilla wax, lavender floral water*, panthenol, plant collagen, coenzyme Q10, vitamin E, natural fragrance**, hyaluronic acid, ylang-ylang essential oil, rosewood essential oil, geranium essential oil.Question: can candelilla wax be used as the sole emulsifier in a formula that I believe is W/O? Also, I don't see any preservatives, is that ok? I'd like to make something like this but I'm not convinced about the stability or shelf life. Thanks!

Hello, I am extremely pleased with your recipes and website, you do an excellent helpful job. Thank you!!! I recently placed an order and am already thinking about an spf for summer. Can you please tell me, can I use ALFA Emulsifier instead of Olive + Candelilla wax? Could the waxes be removed otherwise? Thank you :)
