Description

Centella Oil (Centella asiatica) is an excellent product for repairing the appearance of damaged skin, soothing irritation, fading unevenness, and treating a sensitive scalp. It combines the emollient properties of the base oil with the healing and protective action of the plant's specific compounds, which have a documented role in the regeneration of damaged skin, scars, stretch marks, and sagging skin.

Main bioactive compounds of Centella Asiatica macerated oil
Although the famous molecules in Centella (asiaticoside and madecassoside) are water-soluble glycosides, the maceration process successfully extracts the lipid fraction and lipophilic aglycones of the plant:
Free triterpene acids (Asiatic Acid and Madecassic Acid): These are the more lipophilic forms of Centella's actives. They are recognized in cosmetics for their ability to stimulate collagen synthesis (type I and III), accelerate the healing of micro-lesions, and improve skin elasticity.
Phytosterols (beta-sitosterol, stigmasterol, campesterol): Extracted both from the plant and naturally present in the base oil. They have a structure similar to the lipids of the scalp and skin, reducing inflammation, redness, and itching.

Characteristics

  • eco Sourcing: Maceration of the aerial parts of Centella asiatica in sunflower oil
  • water_do Appearance: Clear liquid, yellowish color, medium viscosity, subtle scent
  • verified_user Quality: Cosmetic grade, 100% natural

Ingredients: Helianthus Annuus Seed Oil, Centella Asiatica Extract
100% natural, free of preservatives or additives.

Main Properties

  • checkSkin regenerator: supports the synthesis of collagen and glycosaminoglycans, contributing to rebuilding the structure of damaged skin.
  • checkRestructuring, firming: by supporting the skin's natural firmness, it helps maintain skin tone, making it ideal in formulas intended to prevent stretch marks and in products aimed at rejuvenating the neck, decolletage, and facial contours.
  • checkSoothing for skin stressed by environmental factors: comforting, it reduces the tight feeling, discomfort, and visible redness that appear after prolonged exposure to the sun, wind, cold, or after cosmetic procedures such as hair removal or peeling.
  • checkHealing, repairing: specific compounds contribute to improving the appearance of recent scars and skin with cracks or minor superficial injuries.
  • checkElasticizing: contributes to improving skin elasticity, being a relevant ingredient in anti-aging or anti-stretch mark formulas.
  • checkDeep emollience, barrier restoration: softens the epidermis, combats a dry or flaking skin appearance, and limits dehydration by reducing water loss from tissues.

Usage & Synergies

Face care

Centella Asiatica Oil is used for skin with recent scars, an uneven texture, or signs of irritation. It is also a good choice for sensitive or problematic skin.

Practical recommendations

  • Oil for scarred skin: Apply a few drops onto clean skin in the evening, on areas with recent scars or uneven texture.
  • Ingredient in regenerating serum: Incorporate at 20-50% into an oily serum, alongside specific regenerating actives.
  • Ingredient in day or night cream: Add at 10-30% to creams intended for skin regeneration.

Synergies in face care

For a regenerating serum intended for scarred skin, the synergy with Avocado Oil and Bisabolol supports both soothing and regeneration. On mature skin in need of firmness, the association with Organic Argan Oil and Coenzyme Q10 completes the anti-aging spectrum. As a regenerating ingredient for irritated skin, combining it with Arnica Oil or Calendula Oil provides a cumulative anti-inflammatory effect.

Body care

At the body level, Centella oil is a good choice for stretch marks, scars, and sagging skin. It can be used pure on the affected areas or as an active ingredient in creams and balms.

Practical recommendations

  • Direct application on stretch marks: Apply a few drops directly onto stretch marks or scars, massaging gently every day.
  • Ingredient in anti-stretch mark cream: Incorporate at 20-40% into creams or balms for body skin regeneration.
  • Ingredient in balm for damaged skin: Add at 20-40% to balms for hands, feet, or elbows.

Synergies in body care

For an anti-stretch mark formula, the synergy with Borage Oil and Rosa Mosqueta Oil supports elasticity and regeneration. As an ingredient in balms for damaged skin, the association with Organic Shea Butter and Ceramides completes the restoration of the skin barrier.

Hair care

On hair, Centella oil can be included in treatments for an irritated scalp or a scalp experiencing discomfort, contributing to calming inflammation and regenerating the skin of the head.

Practical recommendations

  • Ingredient in soothing scalp serum: Incorporate at 20–30% into a treatment oil for an irritated scalp.

Synergies in hair care

For a soothing scalp treatment, the synergy with Babassu Oil and Cedarwood Atlas Essential Oil supports the anti-inflammatory effect.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Why is it called "tiger grass"?
The name comes from folk tradition in India, according to which Bengal tigers rolled around in areas where Centella grows after fights to soothe their wounds, an observation that preceded scientific studies on the plant's regenerating properties.

Does it work on old scars?
The documented effects are more relevant for recent scars or skin with a texture that is still in the process of recovery. On old, already matured scars, the effect is more limited.

Can it cause allergic reactions?
Centella asiatica is generally very well tolerated, and allergic reactions (contact dermatitis) are rare. A skin patch test can be done before the first use.

Combining Centella Asiatica oil with pracaxeum oil can help stimulate cell renewal and fight hyperpigmentation. These two oils create a powerful blend that can help improve skin tone, fight stretch marks and leave skin looking healthy and radiant.

For more than 10 years I have been using this oil in a skin care cream for eczema and dermatitis. I can no longer find the recipe on the website - lucky with some notes from years gone by that I haven't thrown away. It has always helped me with this cream: on contact dermatitis, various irritations, even small wounds or simply on overly dry skin.
