Description

Marula Oil (Sclerocarya birrea) is a multi-functional emollient recognized for its nutritional density and surprisingly good absorption. It is particularly beneficial for mature, dry, or lackluster skin, to which it restores a brighter, satin-like, and more uniform appearance. Due to its biomimetic structure complemented by tocopherols, phytosterols, and phenolic compounds, the oil penetrates the upper layers of the epidermis without clogging pores or leaving a persistent residual film.

It is used in cosmetic applications to restore the integrity of the skin barrier of dry, mature, or environmental factor-exposed skin, while offering an emollient and texture-evening action. It is ideal for revitalizing dull, dehydrated, or mature skin, providing a protective barrier against oxidative stress and environmental factors. With a silky texture, this oil acts as a regenerating serum that restores radiance, smooths fine lines, and improves skin elasticity and hair texture.

Characteristics

  • eco Culture: Conventional / Wildcrafted
  • water_do Appearance: Yellowish liquid, discrete characteristic scent, light texture
  • verified_user Quality: Cosmetic grade, cold-pressed, unrefined

Ingredients: Sclerocarya Birrea Seed Oil
100% natural, free of preservatives, free of additives.

Main Properties

  • checkDeep emollient: possesses rapid absorption, restores intercellular lipid bonds, and improves the flexibility of dry and flaking skin.
  • checkAntioxidant: the tocopherols and phytosterols in its composition contribute to protecting the skin against oxidative stress and support a more youthful appearance of the complexion.
  • checkElasticity improvement: restores skin flexibility, reducing the visibility of fine lines and keeping the epidermis saturated.
  • checkReduction of water loss (TEWL): forms a very fine barrier that limits the evaporation of water from the epidermis, maintaining long-term hydration.
  • checkHair conditioner: smooths the hair cuticle, reduces porosity, and improves the flexibility of the hair fiber.

Usage & Synergies

Face care

Marula Oil is suitable for all skin types, including combination skin - where the balancing effect on sebum is relevant. On mature skin, it revitalizes the appearance, smooths texture, and imparts a brighter finish. Unlike other oils rich in Omega-9, it has a moderate viscosity and a relatively low comedogenicity index.

Practical recommendations

  • Daily face oil: Apply 2-3 drops onto clean skin in the morning or evening.
  • Ingredient in anti-aging serums: Incorporate as the primary base in an oily serum intended for mature skin.

Synergies in face care

As an anti-aging serum, the synergy with Cherry Kernel Oil and Argan Oil supports regeneration and the antioxidant effect. On combination skin in need of balancing, the association with Passion Fruit Oil and Jojoba Oil completes the sebum-regulating profile. As a makeup remover, combining it with Oat Oil or Sesame Oil provides an agreeable formula.

Body care

At the body level, Marula oil is a premium choice for lightweight body oils, products for dry skin, and anti-stretch mark formulas.

Practical recommendations

  • Light body oil: Apply to damp skin after showering for rapid hydration and a satin-like finish.
  • Ingredient in anti-stretch mark oil: Incorporate at 20-30% alongside regenerating and elasticizing actives.

Synergies in body care

As an anti-aging body oil with a light texture, the synergy with Macadamia Oil and Coco-silicone offers a nourishing profile without a greasy feel. In an anti-stretch mark formula, the association with Organic Evening Primrose Oil and Rosa Mosqueta Oil completes the skin's elasticization and nourishment.

Hair care

On hair, Marula oil is recommended for dry, damaged, or color-treated hair, where its rapid absorption and nutritional profile contribute to smoothing and shine.

Practical recommendations

  • Leave-in serum: Apply a few drops to damp ends or lengths before styling.
  • Ingredient in hair masks: Incorporate at 15-20% into nourishing masks for dry or color-treated hair.

Synergies in hair care

As a shine serum for color-treated hair, the synergy with Organic Broccoli Oil, Karanja Oil, and Phyto-Silicone provides shine and natural UV protection.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Is it better than argan oil?
These are oils with different profiles. Marula has a slightly higher oleic acid content and a comparable profile of liposoluble antioxidants. Argan is more balanced between oleic and linoleic. On slightly oily skin, Marula may be preferred for its lighter texture, while Argan remains a versatile choice for dry skin.

Does it contain vitamin C?
The vitamin C in Marula fruit is water-soluble and is not found in the oil pressed from the kernels. The kernel oil provides tocopherols, phytosterols, and squalene - which are liposoluble compounds.

Can it be used on an oily scalp too?
With moderation. The dominant oleic acid profile may be less favorable for a scalp with high sebum production. In low concentrations, it can be tolerated as an ingredient in balancing scalp treatments.

The oil absorbs quickly, reduces the appearance of fine lines, soothes, regenerates, moisturizes and eliminates redness quickly. A true beautifying oil, it supports skin resilience, reduces the appearance of scars, keeps skin tone youthful and helps restore optimal moisture levels.

I have long been looking for an oil that doesn't irritate my eyes, it is very well tolerated. If at first it seems vasco it absorbs really well (and quickly) into the skin, velvety.

I have only used it a few times so far on my complexion, not in combination with other ingredients, but simply to observe its qualities. Applied in the evening on a clean face, it stopped my T-zone full of sebum the next day. It's amazing how well it controls sebum production. It's a very light oil, and as an odor, it doesn't smell anything like the one I received. I will continue to watch its effects, then start combining it with other ingredients. I've found that this method of testing a single product for a period of time (where possible) is effective to find out what suits your skin best.

I would be interested to make my own cream with macadamia oil and marula oil based cream purchased from you. These 2 oils can be used together in a cream for mature combination skin and in what grammage. Are these oils recommended for all skin types?
