Description

Tamanu Oil (Calophyllum inophyllum), extracted from the nuts of the sacred Polynesian tree, is a remarkable vegetable oil renowned for its exceptional skin-stimulating and regenerative properties, offering an intense repairing action on skin with blemishes or mild circulatory disorders

Its deep green color and rich consistency conceal a rarely encountered biochemical complexity: in addition to classic fatty acids, it contains calophyllolide, a specific liposoluble neoflavonoid compound present in the unsaponifiable fraction of the oil, with documented anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial activity. It is recommended for the care of skin with scars, stretch marks, and in case of heavy legs and circulatory problems.

In cosmetic applications, tamanu oil is considered a true purifying active and capillary protector, making it ideal for fading redness (couperose) and improving the appearance of varicose veins. Due to its skin tissue restructuring qualities, it is successfully used in fading recent scars, stretch marks, and in the care of acne-prone skin. Although it has a full texture, it absorbs relatively well into the massaged epidermis.

Characteristics

  • eco Culture: Wildcrafted / Conventional (Polynesia, Madagascar)
  • water_do Appearance: Cloudy viscous liquid (sometimes with sediment), dark green color, strong aromatic scent; tendency to solidify below 25°C
  • verified_user Quality: Cosmetic grade, cold-pressed, unrefined

Ingredients: Calophyllum Inophyllum Seed Oil
100% natural, free of preservatives, free of additives.

Main Properties

  • checkRepairing, skin healing: Stimulates cellular regeneration, accelerating the fading of scars, marks left by blemishes, and stretch marks.
  • checkPurifying, anti-blemish: Helps cleanse acne-prone skin and reduce breakouts, possessing natural sanitizing properties.
  • checkSoothing, anti-redness: Rapidly calms irritated skin, reduces redness associated with couperose, and soothes areas exposed to harsh weather.
  • checkMicrocirculation stimulant: Traditionally recognized for its beneficial effect on skin circulatory issues, couperose, dark circles, and the sensation of heavy legs.
  • checkNourishing, antioxidant: Protects cell membranes against oxidative degradation and provides essential fatty acids that reinforce the skin's natural barrier.

Usage & Synergies

Face care

On the face, Tamanu is intended for the care of skin affected by acne, post-acne scars, couperose, and for dark circles. Dilution is mandatory, the typical ratio is 1 part Tamanu to 5 parts carrier oil, for application on the face, or included up to 20% in emulsions, creams, and balms.

Practical recommendations

  • Localized treatment on scars: Dilute 1:5 with Caprilis Oil or Macadamia Oil. Apply directly to scars, massaging gently daily.
  • Serum for acne-prone skin: Incorporate at 10-20% into a serum destined for inflammatory acne, alongside soothing actives.
  • Couperose face cream: Integrated at a ratio of 5-10% into daily care creams or evening facial oils to diminish redness on the cheeks and nose.

Synergies in face care

For acne-prone skin, use it together with Safflower Oil, Calendula Oil, and Black Cumin Oil to enhance the purifying and balancing effect. On post-acne scars, the association with Centella Asiatica Oil supports regeneration. For acne-prone skin, combining it with Laurel Oil delivers a synergistic purifying effect.

Body care

At the body level, Tamanu is used for eczema, psoriasis, stretch marks, heavy legs, varicose veins, and rheumatic or joint pain. It is a powerful active ingredient, not a base oil: it should be used diluted (typical ratio 1:5 with a carrier oil), and up to 50% in targeted localized treatments.

Practical recommendations

  • Oil for heavy legs: Dilute in a base oil and apply to the legs in the evening, using an upward massage from the ankle toward the knee.
  • Ingredient in creams and balms for eczema: Incorporate into formulas for skin experiencing chronic problems.
  • Massage oil for rheumatic pain: Use diluted in a lightweight oil for a soothing massage on joints.

Sinergii în îngrijirea corpului

For heavy legs and circulation, the synergy with Cypress Essential Oil complements the traditional venotonic effect. As a treatment for stretch marks, the association with Centella Asiatica Oil and Wheat Germ Oil supports elasticization.

Hair care

On hair, Tamanu is suitable for a scalp experiencing discomfort or dandruff and for dry hair. Dilution is mandatory (1:3 or 1:4 with a carrier oil).

Practical recommendations

  • Diluted scalp treatment: Mix 1 part Tamanu with 3-4 parts Amla Oil or Argan Oil. Massage onto the scalp, leave on for 30 minutes, then shampoo.
  • Ingredient in hair masks: Incorporate at 5-15% into masks for damaged hair.

Synergies in hair care

As a soothing scalp treatment, the synergy with Burdock Oil as a dilution base completes the balancing effect.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Is it suitable for oily skin?
Yes, due to its purifying and antibacterial properties. However, to avoid weighing down the skin, it is recommended to apply it topically, strictly onto post-acne marks and blemishes, or integrated into a fluid blend alongside jojoba oil.

Why does it need to be diluted?
The high concentration of calophyllolide and other active compounds makes Tamanu a powerful oil, with potential irritating effects if applied pure onto the skin. Diluting it (1:5) allows for concentration control and reduces the risk of sensitization without losing efficiency.

It solidifies in the bottle, is this normal?
Yes, completely normal. Below 25°C, Tamanu oil has a tendency to partially solidify. It liquefies by gently warming the bottle (in a warm water bath), without affecting the properties of the product.

I've been using it for many years, for the multiple skin benefits it has! I also like the nutty scent it has, although perhaps for some more picky eaters, it might be an unpleasant aspect. In any case, it's one of my favorite oils when it comes to any skin condition.

I used it to make Charcoal soap according to the recipe on the Elemental website and it turned out great for cleansing the face. For people with dry skin, there is some feeling of tight skin, but it is due to both the soap , and the water.

unfortunately I am familiar with it firsthand. More than a year ago, in search of a natural remedy for broken capillaries on the wings of the nose, I found information about the positive results of using tamanu oil for this ailment. I bred it with macadamia oil.

I am going to order it, again, for creams against circulatory problems and varicose veins, I have used it so far to prepare the remedy for mycoses, recommended among the recipes, and I am very pleased with the results, although it has been only a few days; this mixture (aromatherapeutic oil for skin mycoses) is not only useful for mycoses, having a strong composition, antimicrobial and skin regenerating, it is wonderful in many other situations!

I use tamanu oil to soothe my scars. I've been looking for such an oil for a long time to treat an old scar I got from cutting my arm in the area with thinner and sensitive skin. I will do the treatment for a long time and can't wait to see the improvement.

Tamanu oil is one of Elemental's most useful little finds; for years, it's been a fixture on Elemental's magic shelf of products, using it in anti-acne, healing, circulating products. It heals acne marks, helps with skin problems (eczema, psoriasis), stimulates circulation, etc. One of my favorites!

First of all thank you for the order sent; as every time, it arrives promptly and in exceptional condition! About this oil I have only words of praise, it seems as if it took a dwarf not to discover it myself. anyway the impregnating odor brings of neem oil indeed, but it does not compare. This one is very pleasant, I really like the way it smells and it as an oil is very good, especially for dry skin, which makes it smooth and pleasant to the touch! I highly recommend it! Thank you so much for bringing such products to us!!!
