Zinc Ricinoleate – Effective odor neutralizer, active in natural deodorants
Zinc Ricinoleate is obtained by combining zinc with ricinoleic acid, the primary fatty acid in ricin oil. It is one of the most valued active ingredients for natural deodorant formulations due to its mode of action: it does not block perspiration nor does it possess antimicrobial properties, but rather traps and neutralizes the molecules responsible for unpleasant odor formed during the bacterial breakdown of sweat components.
This mechanism sets it apart from both classic antiperspirants (which block perspiration) and deodorants containing strong antibacterial agents, making it a staple ingredient in natural cosmetics and gentle formulations that respect the skin's natural microflora.

Formulation Guide
- Add to the oil phase of the formula and heat above 85°C until completely melted
- For anhydrous sticks, adding approximately 5% water to the formula can increase odor absorption efficacy
- In body creams, a dosage of 1-1.5% is sufficient
- Stable across a wide pH range (4.0 - 8.0)
- Compatible with other common deodorant active ingredients in formulation

I also use this one in my personal deodorant recipe and I think it helps neutralize unpleasant odors. it also helps to harden the composition. I recommend to melt it together with the butters, as it takes quite a long time to melt.
