Laurel berry oil
Description
Laurel Berry Oil (Laurus nobilis) is extracted from the fruit pulp of the laurel tree, not from the leaves, and not from the seeds. This is the core ingredient of the famous Aleppo soap and of the millenary Syrian cosmetic tradition. It is a vegetable oil intended for topical treatments such as acne-prone skin, a dandruff-affected scalp, superficial skin infections, and mycoses.
With a semi-solid consistency, an intense green-brownish color, and a specific, penetrating medicinal scent, it is a purifying concentrate that stands apart from common vegetable oils. Its natural fatty acid content is complemented by a fraction of substances inherent to the laurel fruit, which are responsible for the antiseptic effect and the characteristic aroma. It is a high-potency oil that should not be applied pure onto large areas of skin.
Please note: it should not be confused with laurel essential oil (from the leaves), laurel seed oil, or the oily macerate of laurel leaves, these are different products with different compositions.

Usage & Synergies
Face care
On the face, Laurel Berry Oil is intended for topical treatments on blemishes, cystic acne, or furunculosises (boils), not as a face oil for large areas. The recommended concentration in formulas is up to 50%; undiluted, it can be used as a spot treatment.
Practical recommendations
- Topical treatment on blemishes: Apply with a cotton swab strictly to the acne or boil area. Do not use on large areas.
- Ingredient in purifying masks: Incorporate at 5-15% into a green clay or Ghassoul mask. It increases the purifying effect of the clay.
- Ingredient in topical creams or serums: Incorporate at 10-20% into topical formulas for problematic skin.
Synergies in face care
For the care of acne-prone skin, the synergy with Organic Black Cumin Oil and Tea Tree Essential Oil supports a cumulative antibacterial effect. As an ingredient in creams for skin affected by mycoses, the association with Palmarosa Essential Oil and Tamanu Oil completes the antifungal spectrum. Diluted in Jojoba Oil or Caprilis, it becomes easier to apply topically without a risk of irritation.
Body care
At the body level, Laurel Berry Oil is useful in formulas intended for the care of skin with superficial skin infections, eczema, psoriasis, or muscle pain and rheumatism. It should not be applied pure on large areas; maximum 50% in a blend with other oils.
Practical recommendations
- Purifying balm for problematic skin: Incorporate at 20-50% into a balm or ointment for skin areas with chronic problems.
- DIY Aleppo Soap: Use as a main ingredient alongside olive oil to prepare Aleppo-type soap through the CP (cold process) method.
Synergies in body care
As an ingredient in balms for problematic skin, the synergy with Andiroba Oil and Lavender Essential Oil completes the soothing and antiseptic effects. In formulas for muscle pain, the association with Arnica Oil and Lemon Eucalyptus Essential Oil supports the anti-inflammatory effect.
Hair care
On the scalp, Laurel Berry Oil is a purifying active for dandruff, seborrheic dermatitis, and oily problematic scalps. It should not be applied pure; it must be diluted in neutral vegetable oils.
Practical recommendations
- Purifying scalp mask: Mix 20-30% Laurel Berry Oil with 70-80% Caprilis. Apply to the scalp, leave on for 30 minutes, then shampoo.
- Ingredient in solid shampoo: Incorporate at 5-15% into solid shampoo formulas for problematic scalps.
Synergies in hair care
As a purifying active in a scalp mask, the synergy with Tea Tree Essential Oil and Burdock Oil as a dilution base provides a balanced antiseptic and fortifying treatment.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
It solidifies in the bottle. Is this normal?
Yes, completely normal. At room temperature, Laurel Berry Oil is semi-solid or paste-like. It liquefies easily in a warm water bath. It should not be heated to high temperatures.
Can it be used by people with an allergy to Asteraceae?
Yes, Laurel Berry Oil (Laurus nobilis) does not belong to the Asteraceae family. Caution regarding Asteraceae is relevant for other products (arnica, calendula, milk thistle). Lauraceae has a different allergenic profile; however, for safety, a skin patch test is recommended before first use.
What is the difference compared to laurel essential oil?
They are completely different products. Laurel essential oil is obtained from leaves through steam distillation and contains a high concentration of volatile aromatic compounds (cineole, linalool). Laurel vegetable oil is obtained from the fruit pulp and contains fatty acids along with a small fraction of volatile oils (1-2%). Their cosmetic role is different.
