SunFlow emulsifier
Description
SunFlow Emulsifier - Cold Process and Ultra-Light Textures
SunFlow Emulsifier is a 100% natural, multifunctional cosmetic ingredient that acts as an O/W (oil-in-water) emulsifier as well as a dispersing agent, specially designed for cold manufacturing processes (cold process), thus saving time and energy.
Its biomimetic structure gives it a high affinity for the skin's natural lipids, making it ideal for modern, sustainable, and vegan products. This emulsifier offers a very light (feather-light) sensation after application, leaving a fine and comfortable film with uniform distribution and rapid absorption.
Ingredients: Glyceryl Citrate/Lactate/Linoleate/Oleate
Characteristics
- Presentation: Viscous liquid, clear, golden-yellow color, with a neutral characteristic scent.
- HLB: Approximately 10-12.
- Solubility: Dispersible in water, soluble in the oil phase, miscible in vegetable oils and esters.
- Quality: 100% natural origin, approved for organic cosmetics, vegan, Palm-Free.
Main Properties
- Cold Processing: Allows for the creation of emulsions without heating, protecting temperature-sensitive active ingredients. It also works well in hot processes, including the "one-pot" method.
- Blooming Effect: In anhydrous bath oils, it generates immediate self-emulsification upon contact with water, transforming the oil into a milky lotion.
- "Feather-light" Sensoriality: Offers an extremely light sensation on the skin, with uniform spread and rapid absorption, without a whitening effect (no-soaping).
- Premium Texture: Imparts a sense of softness and freshness to the skin, compatible with the "clean beauty" concept, non-greasy, and non-sticky.
- Care Effect: Leaves behind a fine and comfortable protective film, giving the skin a healthy and refreshed appearance.
- Versatility and Flexibility: Stabilizes a wide range of viscosities, from sprayable lotions to unctuous creams; can be used as a primary emulsifier, co-emulsifier, or as a solubilizing agent for essential oils and perfumes.
Cosmetic Applications
Used as a cosmetic ingredient. General dosage: 1% - 3%.
Due to its optimal sensory profile, liquid form, and ease of use, it is suitable for preparing:
- Fluid emulsion-type facial serums with rapid absorption
- Gentle cleansers (milk or hydrophilic oil type)
- Cleansing oils for face or body
- Light and fine creams for oily or sensitive skin
- Body milks, low-viscosity formulas
- Shower oils, scrubs, and self-emulsifying cleansers that transform into hydrating milk upon contact with water
Formulation Guide
- It is suitable for anhydrous or O/W (oil-in-water) applications. It can stabilize up to 35% oil phase, regardless of the polarity of the oils used.
- Recommended dosage: 1 - 3% as a primary emulsifier; 0.5 - 2% as a co-emulsifier or solubilizer in water-free formulas.
- Incorporation method: Being liquid, it is mixed directly into the oil phase at room temperature. It can be added before, during, or even after the emulsification process.
- Stability: For very fluid emulsions, the use of an aqueous phase stabilizer (such as xanthan gum) is recommended to prevent separation over time. It is an anionic emulsifier at high pH but behaves as a non-ionic one in most cosmetic formulations.
- pH: Works within a wide pH range, between 4.5 and 10.0.
Process Flexibility:
Cold process (2 steps):
1. Preparation: Prepare and mix the aqueous phase and the oil phase separately.
2. Emulsification: Add the aqueous phase to the oily phase (or vice versa) and homogenize.
Hot process (3 steps):
1. Preparation: Prepare the phases separately.
2. Heating: Both phases are heated under stirring to 70-80°C.
3. Homogenization: Mix the phases and let cool under continuous stirring.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Can it be heated if the formula requires it?
Yes, the emulsifier is thermostable. Although its main advantage is cold processing, it withstands heating (for example, to melt solid butters in the oil phase) without losing its properties.
Does it require a co-emulsifier or stabilizer?
Being a liquid emulsifier that creates low-viscosity emulsions, the use of a gelling agent in the aqueous phase is recommended to ensure the long-term physical stability of the emulsion.
Is it suitable for people who avoid products with palm oil?
Absolutely. SunFlow Emulsifier is obtained from sunflower and contains no palm derivatives, making it perfect for sustainability-oriented brands.
Safety in Use
Profile: Biodegradable, non-toxic ingredient, based on lipids found naturally in sunflower, particularly well-tolerated by the skin. It is not considered irritating or sensitizing at the recommended concentrations of use.
Precautions: Product intended exclusively for external cosmetic use. Do not ingest. Avoid direct contact with eyes in its pure form; in case of accidental contact, rinse with plenty of water.
Storage: Store in the original packaging, in a cool place away from direct light. Being a natural product, the color may vary slightly without affecting the product quality.
