Description

Organic Evening Primrose Oil (Oenothera biennis) is exceptionally rich in gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), making it one of the reference oils for cosmetic treatments aimed at restoring the skin barrier and soothing atopic or chronically dry skin. It is recommended primarily for mature, wrinkled, sensitive skin or skin affected by eczema and dermatitis, skin categories that often exhibit a documented deficit of GLA.

It is a precious elixir for skin restructuring, renowned in cosmetics for skin rejuvenation and elasticity. It infuses the epidermis with structural lipids that deeply repair the hydrolipid barrier, instantly soothing inflammation, redness, and irritation specific to sensitive, dry, or atopic-prone skin. Through its ability to stimulate cell regeneration and limit water loss from tissues, it is the ideal ingredient in anti-aging formulas, restoring a dense, firm appearance and radiance to mature, tired, or devitalized skin.

Characteristics

  • eco Culture: Organic, certified
  • water_do Appearance: Yellowish liquid, characteristic scent, medium viscosity
  • verified_user Quality: Cosmetic grade, cold-pressed, unrefined

Ingredients: Oenothera Biennis Oil*
*100% of the total ingredients come from organic farming. COSMOS ORGANIC certified by Ecocert Greenlife.

Main Properties

  • checkIntense regenerator: stimulates cell renewal and helps diminish the depth of wrinkles.
  • checkLipid barrier restructuring: restores the intercellular cement, being essential for repairing thinned skin or skin with a compromised protective barrier.
  • checkAnti-inflammatory, soothing: significantly reduces the sensation of itching (pruritus), visible redness, and skin discomfort specific to reactive or atopic skin.
  • checkElasticizing, anti-aging: supports the appearance of elasticity and firmness in mature skin, providing a plumper and more toned look to the complexion.
  • checkNourishing, emollient: ensures deep nourishment for dry or flaking skin.
  • checkDeep hydration: limits transepidermal water loss, ensuring the maintenance of an optimal moisture level in the deep layers of the skin.

Usage & Synergies

Face care

It is recommended for mature, wrinkled, sensitive skin or skin with mild dermatitis. It is generally not used pure as a daily face oil; it is incorporated into serums or creams as an ingredient. The effect is cumulative and requires consistent use over several weeks.

Practical recommendations

  • Ingredient in anti-aging serum: Incorporate at 10-20% alongside more stable oils and a liposoluble antioxidant.
  • Ingredient in creams: Add at 5-20% into the oil phase of soothing and restorative creams.

Synergies in face care

The association with Borage Oil, another oil rich in GLA, and Rosa Mosqueta Oil creates a complete regenerating profile for mature skin. On atopic skin or skin with mild eczema, the synergy with Bisabolol and Ceramides completes the restoration of the skin barrier. Combined with Wheat Germ Oil for ultra-nourishing and skin-repairing compositions.

Body care

At the body level, it is valuable in formulas for severely dry skin, stretch marks, and atopic skin. It is used diluted or within formulas, not pure over large areas.

Practical recommendations

  • Ingredient in anti-stretch mark oil: Incorporate at 10-15% alongside other specific vegetable oils and Vitamin E for an elasticizing and restorative effect.
  • Ingredient in creams for atopic skin: Add into emollient creams or balms for areas with mild eczema or severely dry skin.
  • Nail care: Apply a few drops to nails and cuticles in the evening. Repeat regularly.

Synergies in body care

In an anti-stretch mark formula, the synergy with Macadamia Oil and Helichrysum or Geranium Essential Oil completes the structuring and aromatic profile. For atopic skin, the association with Andiroba Oil and Calendula Oil supports both soothing and emollience without overloading the barrier. For nail and cuticle care, combine with Lemon Essential Oil.

Hair care

On hair, it can be included at low concentrations in treatments for dry or brittle ends and in hair masks for hair lacking nutrition.

Practical recommendations

  • Ingredient in nourishing hair mask: Incorporate at 5-10% into masks for dry or damaged hair, alongside specific ingredients.

Synergies in hair care

As a nourishing active in hair masks, the synergy with Organic Argan Oil and Broccoli Seed Oil completes the structuring of the fiber.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is the difference compared to Borage oil?
Both are major sources of GLA, but their profiles differ. Borage oil has a higher concentration of GLA but lower stability. Evening Primrose has more linoleic acid and a more balanced profile. They can be used complementarily to maximize GLA intake.

How long does it take for visible effects to appear on the skin?
Restoring the skin barrier through GLA is a cumulative process that requires several weeks of regular use. It is not an oil with an immediate effect.

Does it have an unpleasant odor?
It has a specific, oily, slightly unpleasant scent in its pure state; the intensity can vary from batch to batch. This is a sign that the oil is unrefined.

Reviews have often helped me in my choice of products and with this oil it was the same. Yes, it is a highly regarded oil and rightly so. It is an oil of and light, concentrated. With multiple benefits. I have included it in an oil serum along with other oils but even though the bottle is only 50 ml, I have enough to make face and eye creams. I will include it in mine to test its benefits. Back with my impressions!

Evening Luminita is among the top elixirs for protection against skin aging. I use this oil whenever I feel the need to moisturize my complexion, but also for the skin around my eyes. I feel more relaxed knowing that I am benefiting from the prevention of premature skin aging. I'm glad that in my search for solutions to various skin problems, I have turned my eyes in the right direction: nature's magic.

I was delighted to use this oil to prepare the Argan & Rose with Geranium Beauty Elixir, proposed by Elemental (because I replaced the Neroli fragrance); I added a dash of pearly pigment, and now it enchants every evening, before bedtime, with its magical and velvety properties

It is an extremely wonderful oil that I include both in face creams, skin serums .It is appreciated for its regenerating and anti-wrinkle effect, which slows down the aging process of the skin, restores suppleness and elasticity. It is ideal for caring for the delicate area around the eyes, sensitive skin, for smoothing wrinkles and in anti-aging applications. I love it :)

After the first 2 consecutive evenings that I applied it as such, I was pleasantly surprised to notice that the wrinkles on my forehead almost disappeared (dry complexion). Much more effective than many very expensive creams. I highly recommend!
