Burdock oil
Description
Burdock Oil (Arctium lappa) has a good reputation in traditional hair care, being used for an unbalanced scalp, fragile, thinning hair, or an irritated scalp, whether oily or dry. Used consistently, it contributes to balancing and soothing the scalp. On the face, it is less commonly used, but it can bring an extra soothing benefit to formulas intended for irritated skin.
Obtained by macerating the root in a lipid base, burdock oil contains polyacetylenic compounds and polyenes - these are considered primarily responsible for the antimicrobial and antifungal properties of burdock on the skin and scalp, helping to cleanse the skin, combat dandruff (caused by the Malassezia fungus), and regulate sebum secretion. It also contains phytosterols, especially beta-sitosterol and stigmasterol, with an anti-inflammatory, soothing effect on the irritated scalp and a skin barrier-strengthening action.
