Description

Niaouli (Melaleuca viridiflora) is an essential oil with an outstanding anti-infectious profile, containing substances with antiviral and antibacterial actions. It acts as an expectorant and immunostimulant, and, through viridiflorol, as a venous tonic. Related to Tea Tree and Cajuput within the Melaleuca family, it has earned a distinct reputation from its better-known relatives, being somewhat gentler on the skin and mucous membranes than Eucalyptus Globulus, featuring a broader antiviral spectrum than Tea Tree, and possessing a unique radioprotective property documented in French medical literature.

The chemotype matters more for Niaouli than for almost any other oil in the Melaleuca family: there are up to six distinct chemotypes with entirely different properties. The Ellemental product is CT 1,8-cineole/viridiflorol, the classic therapeutic chemotype, displaying the profile described in specialized literature.

air Olfactory profile: Camphorous, fresh, intense, with medicinal notes and slightly earthy, sweet-balsamic undertones. Familiar but possessing more depth than classic eucalyptus.

encrypted_add_circle Cosmetic Properties and Benefits

  • Purifier and skin tonic: Contributes to a clean and balanced appearance of skin prone to imperfections and skin infections, serving as an ideal ingredient in purifying toners, serums, and cleansers.
  • Cutaneous radioprotector: Traditionally used in French medicine to protect and soothe skin exposed to radiotherapy - clinical studies document a reduction in the intensity of radiodermatitis. Applied diluted after each irradiation session, never before.
  • Tissue regenerator: Contributes to the appearance of the skin following cutaneous aggressions, superficial scars, and dermatological interventions.
  • Venous and lymphatic tonic: Viridiflorol grants Niaouli a documented venotonic action, serving as an ingredient in massage oils and creams for heavy legs and visible capillaries.
  • Antifungal: Traditionally used for the care of skin and nails with a fungal tendency.

air_freshener Aromatherapeutic Properties

  • Expectorant and mucolytic: Traditionally used for respiratory comfort in rhinitis, sinusitis, and bronchitis, it stimulates the ciliary activity of the respiratory mucosa and facilitates the elimination of secretions.

Questions and Answers (FAQ)

Q: What is the difference compared to Tea Tree, since both are Melaleuca?
A: They belong to the same genus but present different profiles. Tea Tree (Melaleuca alternifolia) is dominated by terpinen-4-ol, acting as a powerful antibacterial and antifungal. Niaouli is instead dominated by 1,8-cineole, with a strong focus on respiratory and antiviral properties. Viridiflorol adds a venotonic dimension that is absent in Tea Tree. The aroma of Niaouli is also more camphorous compared to Tea Tree. They are not interchangeable but can be highly complementary.

Q: Is the radioprotective property documented or is it just a tradition?
A: It is clinically documented. French integrative medicine, led by Franchomme, developed protocols for applying diluted Niaouli to irradiated areas, and clinical studies have confirmed a reduction in the intensity and duration of radiodermatitis. It must not be applied before a radiotherapy session, but rather afterward to promote skin regeneration.

Because blended together they potentiate their powers, I love victorious combinations between oils. A massage with 10 drops of niaouli essential oil + 10 drops of eucalyptus oil + 1 ml of carrier oil, erases the discomfort created by flu-like illnesses, whatever the season.

As a fragrance (besides Cosgard) and anti-fungal ingredient in the Dry Feet Cream it has an unexpected olfactory effect - it's almost grassy and medicinal in the container with the cream made but on the skin it smells nice and lovely and warm.

Like eucalyptus essential oil, it clears the nose immediately, and decongests the airways. Very good antiviral, and adjuvant in the treatment of allergies (allergic rhinitis)
