Description

Lemon Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus citriodora), fresh, citrate, and with a woody yet sweet subtlety that classic eucalyptus lacks, is a completely unique eucalyptus, more of a distant cousin to Globulus or Radiata than a sibling. The name "Lemon" is not an added flavor, but the natural profile of the plant: the leaves of Eucalyptus citriodora release an intense lemon aroma when crushed, due to a high content of citronellal, the dominant active compound responsible for both the scent and the specific properties of this oil.

Unlike Eucalyptus Globulus (specialized for respiratory support) or Eucalyptus Radiata (gentler and more versatile), Lemon Eucalyptus occupies its own niche: it is the reference oil for joint and muscular comfort in massage, an effective natural repellent, and a soothing ingredient for itchy skin. Rich in citronellal and citronellol, its combination of active compounds provides a well-documented anti-inflammatory and antifungal action, valued in both personal care formulas and wellness blends.

air Olfactory profile: Intensely citrate, fresh, and slightly floral, with a distinctive woody-balsamic undertone. Warmer and sweeter than Lemon FCF, less camphorous than Eucalyptus Globulus.

Ingredients: Lemon Eucalyptus Essential Oil (Eucalyptus Citriodora Oil)
100% pure and natural, botanically and biochemically defined, undiluted
Obtained by steam distillation from the leaves of Eucalyptus citriodora.

encrypted_add_circle Cosmetic Properties and Benefits

  • Anti-inflammatory and skin soothing: Citronellal inhibits the release of inflammatory mediators in the skin, visibly soothing redness, irritation, and pruritus, useful in formulas for sensitive, reactive, or after-sun skin.
  • Antifungal and antiseptic: Active against skin fungi and bacteria, making it a valuable ingredient in formulas for skin prone to fungal imperfections or in scalp hygiene products.
  • Natural repellent: The high citronellal content makes it an effective ingredient in natural insect protection lotions and sprays, with a more refined olfactory profile than classic Citronella.
  • Natural deodorant: The antibacterial action targets the bacteria responsible for body odor - a functional ingredient in natural deodorants with a citrate-woody profile.
  • Scalp tonic: Its antifungal and purifying properties recommend it in formulas for seborrheic scalps or those prone to dandruff.

air_freshener Aromatherapeutic Properties

  • Relaxing and nervous system calming: Unlike other more stimulating eucalyptus oils, Lemon Eucalyptus has a more soothing effect, citronellal acts on the central nervous system with mild sedative properties, useful in evening blends or muscle relaxation rituals.
  • Ambient purifier: Diffused, it creates a fresh, citrate, and clean atmosphere, more subtle and elegant than Citronella, warmer than Lemon FCF.
  • Cold season comfort: Although it is not a respiratory decongestant of Globulus's caliber, it contributes to an atmosphere conducive to free breathing, especially in synergies with Eucalyptus Radiata or Niaouli.

hub Recommended Synergies

  • Joint and muscular massage: Synergistic with Organic Rosemary Essential Oil and Organic Peppermint Essential Oil, diluted in Tamanu Oil - an anti-inflammatory and analgesic combination for massaging areas with joint discomfort or contracted muscles.
  • Complete natural repellent: Combines powerfully with Citronella Essential Oil and Geranium Bourbon Essential Oil, diluted in Caprilis or Organic Jojoba Oil - for a protective body lotion with a more refined citrate-floral olfactory profile than Citronella alone.
  • Scalp and dandruff: An antifungal trio with Organic Tea Tree Essential Oil and Organic Cedarwood Atlas Essential Oil, diluted in Ricin Oil - as a pre-wash treatment for a problematic scalp.
  • Relaxation and muscle comfort in the cold season: Associates with Eucalyptus Radiata Essential Oil and Lavender Essential Oil in Shea Butter or Mango Butter - a tonic balm for muscles and the chest.
  • Natural perfumery: A citrate top note with a woody-balsamic character - it tempers the sharpness of other citruses and harmonizes with floral (Geranium Bourbon), woody (Organic Cedarwood Atlas Essential Oil, Sandalwood), and balsamic (Frankincense) notes.

Questions and Answers (FAQ)

Q: What is the difference between Lemon Eucalyptus and the other types of eucalyptus on the website?
A: Ellemental offers three eucalyptus oils with distinct profiles, each with its own applications. Organic Eucalyptus Globulus is the classic eucalyptus, a powerful respiratory decongestant with an intense camphorous scent. Eucalyptus Radiata is gentler and more versatile, preferred when Globulus feels too aggressive. Lemon Eucalyptus (citriodora) is the only one with a citrate profile, rich in citronellal, not 1,8-cineole, and is the choice for joint and muscular massage, repellent formulas, and dermatological applications, rather than respiratory congestion.

Q: Is it the same thing as "Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus" (OLE) found in CDC-approved commercial repellents?
A: No, and the distinction is important. OLE (Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus) is a refined and concentrated product in which citronellal is chemically converted into PMD (para-menthane-3,8-diol), a compound with proven efficacy comparable to DEET. Pure Lemon Eucalyptus essential oil contains natural citronellal, but in much lower concentrations than processed OLE. As a DIY ingredient, the pure essential oil offers real repellent properties, but with a shorter duration of action, effective when combined with other repellent actives and reapplied regularly.

Q: Can Lemon Eucalyptus replace Eucalyptus Globulus in cold season formulas?
A: Partially, and depending on the goal. If the objective is nasal congestion and clearing the airways, Globulus or Radiata remain the correct choice due to their 1,8-cineole content. If the objective is rather creating a fresh environment, purifying the air, or a tonic balm for muscles in the cold season, Lemon Eucalyptus performs well on its own or in synergies with Ravintsara or Niaouli.

It smells just like Asevi :( Some may like it, but unfortunately it smells unexpectedly chemical, just like the toilet gel and the floor wash.
