Description

RoseGuard – Multifunctional Antimicrobial Protection with a Delicate Rose Scent

RoseGuard is a state-of-the-art synergistic blend composed of phenethyl alcohol and caprylyl glycol, designed to provide effective preservation and exceptional sensoriality to cosmetic products. It acts as a multifunctional additive: on one hand, it ensures broad-spectrum protection against bacteria, yeasts, and molds, and on the other hand, it functions as a masking agent, imparting a discreet and pleasant rose scent to the product. It is the ideal solution for formulations aiming for a "preservative-free" label (without traditional preservatives).

Ingredients: Phenethyl Alcohol, Caprylyl Glycol.

Characteristics

  • Appearance: Clear, colorless liquid.
  • Scent: Floral, delicate, rose-specific.
  • Solubility: Limited water solubility (up to approx. 1.2%), easily soluble in oils and glycols.
  • Technology: Synergistic combination of microbial inhibitors with a broad spectrum of efficacy.
  • Origin: Nature-identical ingredients and plant derivatives, accepted in conventional and modern cosmetics.

Main Properties

  • Broad Spectrum Protection: Effective against a wide variety of microorganisms, ensuring the microbiological stability of complex formulas.
  • Scent: Covers the unpleasant odors of certain raw materials and provides a light floral olfactory note. The delicate rose scent can mask unwanted odors in the formula without using added fragrance.
  • Emollient and Moisturizing: The caprylyl glycol in the composition offers skin hydration and smoothing benefits.
  • pH Independence: Unlike organic acid-based preservatives, RoseGuard maintains its efficacy across a wide pH range.
  • Efficacy Booster: Caprylyl glycol acts as a "penetrator" of the bacterial cell membrane, making the preservation system much more potent.

Usage Recommendations

General recommended dosage: 0.8% - 1.5%.
It is suitable for modern and gentle skin care formulations. It can be used alone or in combination with other antimicrobial agents to reduce their dosages.

Applications

  • Face and body care emulsions, creams, lotions.
  • Cleansing products, cleansers, shower gels, shampoos.
  • Hydrogels and lipogels.
  • Serums and elixirs.
  • Products for sensitive or reactive skin.

Formulation Guide

  • Procedure: In emulsions, it is preferably added in the final phase, after the emulsion has formed. In clear aqueous solutions, it may require a solubilizer if the solubility threshold of 1.2% is exceeded.
  • Temperature: Addition at temperatures below 40°C is recommended.
  • pH Range: Effective in the pH range of 3.0 - 9.0
  • Technical tip: RoseGuard combines excellently with chelating agents (such as Phytic Acid) to increase the resistance of the preservation system against Gram-negative bacteria.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Why is RoseGuard considered a "preservative-free" option?
Because its ingredients (phenethyl alcohol and caprylyl glycol) are primarily classified as a fragrance and an emollient, respectively. Thus, on the label, the product does not appear to have preservatives listed in Annex V of the European Cosmetic Regulation, although the formula is microbiologically protected.

Does RoseGuard change the scent of my cream?
Yes, it has a discreet rose scent. In most cases, this scent is considered an advantage as it provides a pleasant note to the finished product, eliminating the need for additional fragrance.

Is it suitable for people allergic to fragrance?
Phenethyl alcohol is a natural component of rose essential oil, but RoseGuard is an isolated form. Although it is much safer than complex synthetic fragrances, testing on a small area of skin is recommended for extremely sensitive individuals.

Did not work unfortunately. Destroyed my emulsion and made it water thin. More information needed about which emulgators are compatible.
