Colourful and fragrant lip balm
Formula: 9348 Difficulty level: medium Shelf life: min 12 months

Phase Ingredients Total ~6 ml
A Shea butter 5 gr
A Almond oil 6 gr
A Alkanet root powder 1 gr
B Beeswax white 2 gr
C Aromatic Strawberry extract 10 drops

1. In a heat-resistant glass, heat the ingredients of phase A in a water bath for 15 minutes to heat macerate the alkanet powder, which will release the colouring substances. Stir occasionally.

2. Remove the beaker from the water bath and set aside for 5 minutes to decant the alkanet powder.

3. Filter phase A through a four-layer gauze.

4. To phase A add phase B and heat on the water bath until the beeswax melts

5 Remove from heat, add the ingredients of phase C, stir vigorously and pour into the dedicated container. Leave to set and then place in the fridge for 1-2 hours. The next day the conditioner can be used.

The result is a smooth, naturally fragrant, emollient and nourishing conditioner. Gives a slight tint to the lips.

Hello! The proposed changes are fine, we recommend an extra 0.5 gr beeswax. You can increase the dosage of the alkanet powder, the color will be a bit more intense, but without hiding power. Good luck!

Hello ! I made this recipe, replacing almond oil with coconut oil and it came out very well. Now, I would like to make the following combinations : instead of shea butter to put coffee butter , instead of almond oil to put coconut oil . Since coffee butter is very soft, should I change the amount of wax ? Also to get a more intense color, if we increase the amount of alkanet powder, will it increase the intensity of color on the lips? Thank you!

Hello! You can include Titanium Paste, 0.5-1 gr, with the caveat that it has a bleaching effect and you may need to use a coloring pigment in addition to alkanet.

Hello! You can replace the almond oil with coconut oil, and if you want uncolored conditioner, work with shea+coconut 5g total. Good luck!

Daniela, about 5 g remains of phase A after filtration. Note that phase A also contains a butter, and the concentration of alkanet is quite high, for the most intense coloration. Thanks for your appreciation, good luck to you too!

I have already prepared the oily infusion of alkanet ( for coloring cold soaps). What would be the right amount to use so as not to affect the consistency of the conditioner ( I'm thinking that in the recipe there is a higher amount of oil because some is lost in the filtration). Thanks so much and good luck in the beautiful work you are doing.

The previous version of the recipe contained beetroot powder, an ingredient we no longer have on offer and which was difficult to work with, so for the coloring we used a vegetable ingredient, namely alkanet powder.

The color of beetroot powder may change over time depending on the composition. Try combining it with other mineral or vegetable colorants.

I like this conditioner for consistency, moisturizing, shine. Regarding the color, after a short time it faded. Please let me know what could I do to keep the color given by the beetroot powder. Thanks!
