1. Mix water and guar quat in a bowl. It won't dissolve completely at this stage, but that's fine.
2. In another bowl, larger than 300 ml, add the ingredients from phase B and mix slowly and thoroughly until a homogeneous paste is formed. This will be quite thick.
3. Gradually add the contents of phase A to phase B, stirring slowly in between. It will look like whipped cream.
4. Add the ingredients from phase C and mix slowly until smooth.
5. Gradually add lactic acid until the pH reaches about 5.0
6. At this point, the preparation is like a fluffy, bulky, voluminous white paste, but in 24-48 hours it will clear up and become as it should. When it is clear and translucent, pour it into the dedicated container.
A dense shampoo that cleanses beautifully and infuses hair with moisture, it provides a rich, creamy lather. Contains a synergistic blend of conditioning and moisturizing ingredients that help hair feel softer and easier to style.
Question: How can I thin it down? Every time I make it it turns out super thick, which feels very luxurious in a way, but I'd like to have it just a tad less thick. Is it the guar gum that thickens? Would it help to decrease it?
I added a small portion (maybe 3-5g/100g shampoo) of dipropylene glycol which made the shampoo more easy to pour. I don't think it affected the lather or the conditioning effect and after a few days there seems to be no signs of separation. Just an idea if someone else wants to try. I think it's dose-dependent so start small and work your way up until you get the consistency you want. Yes, there were bubbles during this experiment but they mostly went away next day.
