Arginine (L-arginine) is an amino acid with numerous virtues, used in cosmetic products as a skin and hair conditioning agent, as well as a pH regulator. The arginine molecule is structurally part of the hair shaft's keratin and is a natural component of the skin's Natural Moisturizing Factor (NMF). In cosmetic formulation, arginine is used as an elegant alternative for alkalinizing preparations.

- Procedure for pH Adjustment: It is recommended to dissolve arginine in a small portion of distilled water. Add this concentrated solution gradually under continuous stirring, measuring the pH and continuing until the desired value is reached.
- Incorporation as an Active: In hair products or creams, dissolve the powder directly in the initial aqueous phase of the preparation, as it withstands heating phases typical of standard emulsions (70-80°C).
- Synergies:
- Buffering system: Use alongside Glycolic Acid or Lactic Acid to raise the pH of peeling lotions from corrosive levels to the safe threshold of 3.5 - 4.5.
- Hair formulas: Combines well with Silk Protein and Vege-Keratin in hair conditioners to optimize smooth appearance and cuticle flexibility.
- Replicating the Natural Moisturizing Factor (NMF): Combine in the aqueous phases of creams with Sodium PCA and Sodium Lactate to reconstitute the epidermis's natural humectant mix.
