Amla Powder is a core ingredient in traditional Ayurvedic cosmetics, used equally for skin care, achieving a luminous, uniform complexion, and for hair and scalp care, often in combination with henna and other Ayurvedic powders.
It is obtained from the dried and ground fruits of the Emblica officinalis tree (also known as "Indian gooseberry" or amalaki), sourced from organic farming. Fresh amla fruit is among the most concentrated natural sources of vitamin C, present in a complex with tannins, flavonoids, and gallic acid, a combination studied in specialized literature for its ability to stabilize vitamin C against oxidation.

Formulation Guide
- Preparing an oil macerate: Use 100 ml of vegetable oil of choice and 10 g of powder. Shake well and leave to macerate for up to 7 days, shaking occasionally. Filter using a coffee filter paper or a dense sieve, then transfer the filtrate to a clean bottle. The macerated oil remains stable for several months in a cool place.
- Preparing an infusion: Add 100 ml of boiling water to 10 g of powder, stir, and leave to infuse for up to 15 minutes. Filter, allow to cool, and transfer the filtrate to a clean bottle. Incorporate into the formula immediately or preserve with 1% Cosgard for future use.
- Combines well with henna and other Ayurvedic powders (shikakai, reetha, kapoor kachli) in hair care formulas.

Very beneficial for the skin, as a facial mask, it invigorates, tones and leaves the skin bright and velvety soft... (I would prefer a finer granulation as it was in the past.)
I've been using neutral henna in combination with Amla powder + other ayurvedic powders to make a mask before shower for a few years now, my hair is completely invigorated and has visibly thickened. When I add more Amla, the curls seem even more defined, it's wonderful!

I bought amla powder because of the very good reviews. It didn't necessarily convince me though, or maybe I didn't know how to capitalize on its properties. I added a tablespoon of amla powder to the henna mixture (either blonde or black) but I didn't notice any additional effect, apart from a slightly different shade on my hair (a brownish shade that I didn't like). I have also used it as a hair scrub (a teaspoon + shampoo) and vigorously scrubbed the scalp, but nothing spectacular.
