Description
Alum Stone Powder – Natural mineral, mild deodorant and astringent
Alum stone (Potassium Alum) is a mineral known since antiquity for its astringent properties, the ability to gently tighten pores and create an environment on the skin less favorable to the development of unpleasant odors associated with perspiration. In solid crystal form, it is popularly known as "alum stone" used as a natural deodorant; in ground form, as supplied here, it becomes a versatile ingredient for DIY formulations.
In cosmetics, alum stone is mainly used in natural deodorant formulations, as well as in post-hair-removal care products for its astringent effect.
Ingredients (INCI): Potassium Alum
Technical Characteristics
- Appearance: White crystals, neutral odor
- Solubility: Soluble in water
- Quality: Double potassium and aluminum sulfate (dodecahydrate form), cosmetic grade
- General Dosage: 0.5 - 5% or more, depending on the formulation type and desired effect
Properties and Benefits
- Astringent effect, visibly tightening pores
- Contributes to the natural control of odor associated with perspiration
- Soothing effect on the skin, used in post-epilation/aftershave products
- Natural mineral ingredient with a long history of cosmetic use
- Unfragranced, odorless, and colorless upon application
- Non-antiperspirant; does not block the physiological sweating process
Applications
- Natural deodorants in stick, spray, gel, or roll-on forms
- Post-epilation or aftershave care products
- Lotions, toners, and gels with astringent or deodorant effects as needed
Formulation Guide
- Dissolves in the aqueous phase of the formula at room temperature or slightly warmed for faster dissolution
- For solid stick deodorants, it can be ground more finely in a mortar or grinder
- In emulsion-type formulations, it is typically added in the final phase
- Increases the acidity of preparations in which it is included, an aspect that must be taken into account during formulation
Usage Safety and Storage
- Profile: Irritating to eyes and if inhaled; once diluted to standard formulation concentrations, it is a well-tolerated ingredient long used in cosmetics
- Precautions: External cosmetic use; in case of contact with eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water; do not ingest
- Storage: Store in a closed container in a cool, dry place, protected from light

Excellent in deodorants. I've used it in gel, cream and solid. Can be further ground in a coffee grinder. It is effective, especially in combination with essential oils.
I use alum stone powder for deodorant with ball and antiperspirant It has good effect I'll buy more
Alum stone is, in my opinion, the best antiperspirant. And in powder form, you can easily create a gel or spray. The powder dissolves very easily in liquid. A must-have! And very cheap!
As a compact stone - deodorant, it didn't suit me, but one day I thought maybe I could find the powder, and so I ended up preparing a deodorant according to an elemental recipe, which now I can't do without!
For deodorant is wonderful. I've been using only natural deodorants for a few months now, especially with this ingredient and I'm happy with it.
I made these days a deodorant using alum stone. I didn't expect it to be so good.
It has an antiseptic and antibacterial effect, so I use it to eliminate sweating of the legs and other parts of the body. With regular use, sweating and unpleasant odors disappear.
I created the deodorant according to the associated recipe except I added solubizer and aloe bamboo scented oil and it is perfect. It lasts almost all day without unpleasant odors. I recommend!
I have made it a few times Deodorant gel with alum. Maximum efficiency, without any difficulty in execution and good price. I am very satisfied with the product.
A very effective powder in the preparation of deodorants. Worth trying. Very good value for money
I worked with this powder today. It dissolved completely and very easily in room temperature water. As for the benefits : we have been using alum stone for almost 1 year. There is no better antiperspirant!
this powder has many larger granules that need to be crumbled somehow, not just put in water as they do not melt .
I love this ingredient that I have purchased several times in 500gr bags. It dissolves easily in warm water and has the desired effect along with the other ingredients I use to make a deodorant gel.
It is very good, I have prepared 2 deodorants and I am really impressed with how it behaves on the skin, a few days after use!
I am not easily impressed with a product, but this one really worked. I made two deodorants, for my husband. You can see the difference after a few days of use, which is pretty wonderful.
Alum stone is an effective natural deodorant being a mineral with antibacterial properties. I am an advocate of a body care based entirely on organic materials, I use only alum stone as deodorant for a long time. I prepared liquid deodorant with alum powder and colloidal silver, tea tree and peppermint essential oils. It is gentle on the skin, having a soothing effect, and invigorating thanks to the mint. I will also prepare cream deodorant with incense and different flavors: ylang ylang, lavender.
