Activated charcoal toothpaste
Formula: 1874 Difficulty level: beginner Shelf life: min 6 months pH optimal: -

Phase Ingredients Total ~60 ml
A Calcium carbonate 3 level tablespoons (12 g)
A Activated charcoal 1 level teaspoon (1 g)
A Xylitol 2 1⁄2 level teaspoons (4.4 g)
A Coco-betain Surfactant 2⁄3 tsp grated (0.3 gr)
B Peppermint essential oil 10 drops
B Lemon FCF essential oil 7 drops

1. In a bowl mix the ingredients of phase A slowly and thoroughly.

2. Over the powders add the essential oils and mix slowly, thoroughly. Transfer the resulting composition to a glass jar.

A larger quantity can be prepared, and divided into several jars, one for each adult member of the family.
Instead of the suggested essential oils you can use others, such as: red mandarin or tea tree, or a small amount, 1-3 drop of cloves/cinnamon.

An oral hygiene powder for cleaner, brighter teeth and fresh breath. Charcoal has also earned a reputation for dental hygiene, having, contrary to appearances, a whitening action on the surface of the teeth.

Use: moisten toothbrush and dip into the jar of powder. Brush teeth as usual. During brushing you can add more powder to the toothbrush if needed. Dental hygiene powder can be used daily instead of toothpaste.

Hello! In this recipe I have specified quantities that can be weighed with a scale, or they can be measured with the regular spoon and teaspoon that we use in the kitchen.

Hello, can you please tell me which spoon/spoon could I use to measure the ingredients? On the utensils used for the recipe it is not specified what kind of spoon/spoon I need. Thank you in advance!

Hello, Alexandra. In this case you would not need a preservative, with the help of glycerin the composition is self-preserving.

Hello, If I incorporate all of these ingredients (I would also add kaolin clay and 10% baking soda) with just vegetable glycerin to make a paste (to be able to pour the paste into a container with a pump) should I add preservative ? Thank you

I also used the recommended container and the recipe and as you put the wet brush in the container, it forms clumps and I think from the calcium carbonate is missing on the walls. I tried today to add coconut oil and make it a paste like consistency. Now I'm waiting 1-2 days to see how the paste turns out - and if it's ok, we'll use it like this :D As for brushing my teeth it's wow [with coconut oil]. Thanks for the suggestion :)

Hello. The powder is not effective at all as it sticks to the walls of the container? We have not experienced such problems, especially if using the container recommended in the recipe. To prepare the recipe as a paste, we would suggest adding glycerine, but without testing we cannot give you detailed directions.

I would like to make this recipe as a paste, not powder. What could I add? I ask because the powder is not effective at all, it sticks to the sides of the container and is hard to pick up on the brush. Thanks :)

Hello. That's how we know to include it at the end, premixed with the essential oil or perfuming.
