Sugar Humectant (Sucrose)
Sucrose is a naturally derived disaccharide (sugar) used in cosmetic formulations for its humectant, skin-conditioning, and sensorial benefits. By helping attract and retain water, it supports improved softness and comfort and can contribute to a smoother-looking skin surface, particularly in hydrating and gentle-care concepts. Sucrose is also valued as a formulation aid: it can enhance texture, improve slip, and help balance the feel of surfactant systems, and it serves as the base for sucrose esters that function as mild emulsifiers in many “naturally inspired” products. In exfoliating concepts, sucrose can additionally act as a biodegradable scrub in rinse-off products, providing a soft polishing effect. Commonly found in cleansers, body washes, scrubs, masks, moisturizers, and hair-care products, Sucrose is typically used across a broad range of levels depending on the desired hydration, texture, and application.
