Sodium Laureth Sulfate (Sodium Laureth Sulfate)
Sodium Laureth Sulfate is a widely used anionic surfactant valued in cosmetic and personal care formulations for effective cleansing, strong foam generation, and good processing versatility. It efficiently removes oils and soils and produces a rich lather, making it a staple in shampoos, body washes, facial cleansers, and hand soaps. Compared with harsher sulfate surfactants, its ethoxylated structure can offer improved mildness, though it may still feel drying for some users if not balanced appropriately. For this reason, it is often formulated with amphoteric and non-ionic co-surfactants (such as betaines and glucosides), conditioning polymers, and refatting agents to enhance creaminess, reduce irritation potential, and improve after-feel. Use level and performance are formulation-dependent and typically optimized with pH, electrolyte/thickener strategy, and the overall surfactant package to achieve the desired viscosity, foam quality, and skin or scalp comfort.
