Salvia Officinalis Oil (Sage Essential Oil)
Salvia Officinalis Oil is an aromatic essential oil, typically obtained by steam distillation of the leaves of Salvia officinalis (common sage). In cosmetic formulations, it is used primarily as a perfuming ingredient, providing a fresh, herbaceous note that enhances sensoriality, while also contributing deodorizing and skin- or scalp-conditioning support within botanical blends. It is frequently included at low concentrations in deodorants, body washes, soaps, toners, scalp treatments, and shampoos—particularly in products positioned for oily skin/scalp balance and a refreshed feel. As with many essential oils, it contains naturally occurring fragrance allergens and may be irritating on sensitive skin if overused, so it is typically formulated in accordance with applicable IFRA guidance, especially in leave-on products.
