Pongamol (Pongamol)
Pongamol is a naturally occurring plant polyphenol associated with Pongamia pinnata (also known as Millettia pinnata), where it is present in karanja (pongamia) seed oil alongside related flavonoid constituents. It is valued in cosmetic formulations for its antioxidant support and its ability to contribute to UV-absorption/photoprotection-oriented concepts, which is why it is often positioned as a booster or supportive active in modern sunscreen and “daily defense” systems rather than as a standalone UV filter. Typically incorporated at low use levels in the oil phase (or via solubilized/encapsulated forms to improve robustness), pongamol can enhance the sensorial story of “anti-pollution,” “anti-fatigue,” and “radiance-preserving” products, and is used in facial serums and emulsions, daytime moisturizers, SPF products, after-sun care, and protective body or hair formats where an antioxidant-driven, outdoor-lifestyle positioning is desired.
