Polyquaternium-7 (Polyquaternium-7)

Polyquaternium-7 is a water-soluble cationic polymer widely used in cosmetic formulations as a conditioning agent, film former, and anti-static ingredient, particularly in surfactant-based hair and body products. Its positive charge helps it deposit onto hair and skin to improve slip, reduce the feel of roughness, and enhance softness and manageability—especially after cleansing. In shampoos and shower gels, it can also support a richer foam feel and help reduce friction during rinsing, contributing to improved wet combability and less flyaway. Polyquaternium-7 is commonly incorporated into shampoos, 2-in-1 cleansing conditioners, body washes, hand soaps, shaving products, and some leave-in sprays, where it provides lightweight conditioning without heavy buildup when properly balanced. Use level and performance are formulation-dependent and typically optimized with the surfactant system, electrolyte content, and overall polymer package to achieve the desired clarity, viscosity, and sensorial profile.
