Magnesium Stearate (Magnesium Stearate)
Magnesium Stearate is a magnesium salt of stearic acid used in cosmetic formulations primarily as a binder, bulking agent, and slip/feel modifier—especially in powder and pressed-powder systems. It improves powder flow and compressibility, helping compacts hold together while enhancing payoff, blendability, and a smoother, more velvety application. In color cosmetics, it can increase adhesion and wear, support more even pigment distribution, and reduce the perception of drag, contributing to a refined finish. Magnesium Stearate is commonly found in face powders, blushes, bronzers, eyeshadows, pressed foundations, and other dry or low-water formats, and may also be used in certain stick products to support structure and glide. Use level is formulation-dependent and typically optimized to balance press strength, slip, and sensory softness without compromising color intensity or leaving an overly dry feel.
