Cistus Ladaniferus Oil (Cistus/Labdanum Oil)
Cistus Ladaniferus Oil is an aromatic essential oil obtained from Cistus ladanifer (rockrose), typically produced by steam distillation of the plant material and prized for its deep, resinous-amber, balsamic profile with subtle leathery and smoky facets. In cosmetic formulations, it is used primarily for fragrance character and fixation, lending warmth, richness, and long-lasting depth to perfuming systems, as well as supporting “sensual,” “comforting,” and “luxury” olfactive concepts. Its naturally complex composition—rich in resinous and terpenic constituents that can vary by origin and processing—can also enhance the sensory signature of balms and oil-based products by contributing to a perceived enveloping finish. Generally incorporated at low use levels and formulated with attention to tolerance—especially in leave-on applications—Cistus Ladaniferus Oil is found in fine-fragrance-inspired body care, creams, balms, facial oils, perfumes, aftershaves, and aromatherapy-style products where a sophisticated resinous note and improved scent longevity are desired.
