Hair-protect
Description
Hair-Protect
Hair-Protect – shine, protection, and restored structure for damaged hair
Hair-Protect is a marine active ingredient obtained from the brown alga Cystoseira compressa. It is rich in sulfated polysaccharides (fucoidans), active compounds characteristic of brown algae, known for their affinity with the hair fiber. The active ingredient is incorporated into a three-dimensional hydrocolloid matrix based on corn amylopectin, which ensures a gradual, sustained release of active compounds throughout application.
According to ex vivo studies conducted by the producer of this active ingredient, Hair-Protect contributes to the appearance of shine, strength, and internal hair fiber structure, making it suitable for both daily care and formulations designed for hair damaged by chemical or thermal treatments, dyed, bleached, or frequently exposed to blow-dryers or flat irons.
Ingredients (INCI): Aqua, Glycerin, Cystoseira Compressa Extract, Zea Mays Starch, Dehydroacetic Acid, Benzyl Alcohol, Sodium Benzoate, Gluconolactone, Calcium Gluconate.
Technical Characteristics
- Appearance: Brownish liquid, characteristic odor.
- Active Molecules: Sulfated polysaccharides (fucoidans), incorporated into an amylopectin-based sequential release matrix.
- Origin: Marine-derived active ingredient obtained from the brown alga Cystoseira compressa.
- Solubility: Soluble in aqueous solutions.
- Recommended Usage Dosage: 0.5% - 5%.
Scientific Studies and Documentation
The data below originate from an ex vivo study conducted by the producer of this cosmetic ingredient on dark brown natural hair tresses, chemically bleached in the laboratory, and subsequently treated with a neutral shampoo and a serum containing 5% active ingredient, compared to a placebo serum (identical, but without the active ingredient) and untreated hair. Results obtained in a finished cosmetic product will depend on the concentration used and the overall formula into which it is incorporated.
- Sensory Evaluation (Expert Panel): Tresses treated with the active ingredient at 5% achieved significantly better scores for appearance, tactile texture, shine, and hydration compared to untreated bleached tresses or those treated with placebo alone—approaching the levels of untreated hair.
- Internal Hair Shaft Structure (DSC – Differential Scanning Calorimetry Technique): Enthalpy measurements (associated with the protein structure of the hair cortex) showed a significant increase in tresses treated with the active ingredient compared to those treated with placebo alone, suggesting a more consolidated internal structure of bleached hair.
- Thermal Protection: In the producer's test, tresses treated with the active ingredient retained the natural hydration of the hair shaft up to a temperature 8.8°C higher than untreated bleached hair, and 15.6°C higher than placebo-treated bleached hair before losing moisture.
- Visible Shine: Photographic comparisons from the producer's study demonstrate a visibly improved ability of the hair shaft to reflect light, even in hair subjected to aggressive treatments (chemical bleaching).
Properties and Benefits
- Visible Shine: Contributes to a glossy and healthy appearance of the hair shaft, even after aggressive chemical treatments.
- Look of Consolidated Internal Structure: According to producer studies, it contributes to a stronger appearance of bleached or chemically treated hair shafts.
- Thermal Protection: Helps the hair shaft better maintain its natural hydration during heat exposure (blow-dryers, flat irons, curling irons).
- Improved Tactile Texture: Leaves hair softer and silkier to the touch, according to the producer's sensory evaluations.
- Versatility: Water-soluble, suitable for a wide range of hair care products.
Applications
- Products for intensive strengthening and hair shaft repair.
- Hair treatments dedicated to the post-dyeing, bleaching, or other chemical/thermal treatment periods.
- Daily care products, conditioners, hair masks, leave-in treatments.
- Hair dye formulations.
- Styling and hold products.
- Products dedicated to hair shine.
- Thermal protection products, heat-protectant sprays, pre-styling serums.
Formulation Guide
- Working Procedure: Add to the aqueous phase of the formula, preferably during the final stage of preparation.
- Compatibility: Water-soluble, compatible with most common ingredients in hair care formulations (conditioners, masks, leave-in sprays, styling gels).
- Stability: Stable within the pH range of 4.0-8.0.
Usage Safety and Storage
Profile: Ingredient with good tolerance, featuring a safety profile documented by the producer.
Precautions: External cosmetic use only.
Storage: Store in a closed container in a dry, cool place, protected from direct light.
