Iron Oxide Black CI 77499 (Black Iron Oxide)
Iron Oxide Black (CI 77499) is an inorganic mineral pigment widely used in cosmetic formulations to provide deep black-to-charcoal coloration and to adjust depth and undertone in blended shade systems. Valued for its excellent lightfastness, chemical stability, and strong tinting strength, it delivers reliable color payoff and helps create a broad range of natural-looking tones when combined with CI 77491 (red) and CI 77492 (yellow) iron oxides. As an insoluble pigment, it also contributes to optical coverage and a smoother, more even-looking finish when properly dispersed in powders, waxes, oils, and emulsions. Iron Oxide Black (CI 77499) is commonly found in eyeliners, mascaras, eyeshadows, brow products, foundations, concealers, powders, lip products, and tinted skincare, typically used at low levels due to its high tint strength and formulated to ensure uniform dispersion and consistent shade.
