Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride (Cationic Guar Conditioner)
Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride is a cationically modified guar gum used primarily in hair care as a conditioning polymer and deposition aid. Thanks to its positive charge, it is attracted to the negatively charged surface of hair, helping improve wet combability, reduce the feel of tangles and friction, and enhance softness and smoothness—especially after cleansing. It also contributes to viscosity and texture, supporting a richer, more cushiony feel in shampoos and cleansing conditioners while helping deliver a more conditioned finish without heavy buildup when properly balanced. Common applications include shampoos, conditioners, masks, co-washes, and leave-in treatments, as well as some body washes where improved slip is desired. Use level and performance are formulation-dependent and typically optimized with the surfactant system, electrolyte content, and overall polymer package to achieve the target sensory profile and clarity.
