Citrus Aurantium Bergamia Peel Oil (Bergamot Peel Essential Oil)

A fragrant essential oil expressed from the peel of Citrus aurantium bergamia (bergamot), widely used in cosmetics for its bright, fresh citrus scent and for adding an uplifting “eau de cologne” character to fragrances. It is commonly found in perfumes, body care, soaps, shampoos, and aromatherapy-inspired skincare, where it functions primarily as a perfuming agent and can contribute a clean, refreshing sensory profile. Because it naturally contains fragrance allergens (often including limonene and linalool, depending on the batch) and may contain furocoumarins such as bergapten, some bergamot oils can be phototoxic, increasing the risk of skin reactions when applied to skin that is subsequently exposed to UV light. For leave-on products, formulators often choose FCF (furocoumarin-free) bergamot oil and/or keep the dosage low to improve tolerability, especially for sensitive or reactive skin; as with other essential oils, individual tolerance and regulatory allergen labelling requirements should be taken into account.
