Cetyl Palmitate (Cetyl Palmitate)
Cetyl Palmitate is a waxy ester formed from cetyl alcohol and palmitic acid, widely used in cosmetic formulations as a texture enhancer, structuring agent, and emollient. It helps build body and viscosity, improves slip and spreadability, and contributes to a smooth, velvety after-feel that can reduce the perception of greasiness when balanced with suitable oils and emulsifiers. In emulsions, it supports stability and a richer cream structure, while in anhydrous systems it can add firmness and improve payoff. Cetyl Palmitate is commonly found in creams, lotions, balms, cleansing creams, sunscreens, deodorant sticks, and makeup (including foundations and lip products), where it enhances consistency, glide, and sensory elegance. Use level and performance are formulation-dependent and typically optimized alongside fatty alcohols, waxes, and emulsifier systems to achieve the desired thickness, cushion, and melt profile.
